Conversion and modernization of the Hagenbeck School with repairs

Jahn, Mack & Partner are currently planning and carrying out the conversion and extension of the lower ground floor of Hagenbeck School in Berlin-Weissensee, which project is funded by subsidies granted under the Economic Stimulus Program II. In addition to upgrading this space in terms of its insulation and energy efficiency, the needs specific to a secondary school are also being addressed by the measures. These include, to cite but a few examples, the construction of a combined cafeteria and multi-purpose area and the creation of enclosed classrooms enabling classes to be split up into smaller workgroups of students. The new cafeteria will ensure that all students attending the all-day school will have lunch. The planned multi-purpose room with its movable partition walls and a stage will provide a space for various school activities, particularly in the context of the teaching subject “performing arts”. Outside, a terrace is being built as an extension of the cafeteria/multi-purpose area which will be surrounded by seat risers; this will create an additional outdoor area for the students.

Construction measures for the reorganization of the police center in Potsdam Eiche

Construction of a new building, modernization and repairs. The project is being implemented in separate construction phases (Parts I through V of the budget documentation for construction projects (HU-BAU)), and is set to be completed in 2013.

Part I of the budget documentation for construction projects (HU-BAU) (2001 - 2002)
Construction of parking garages and a radio mast

Part II of the budget documentation for construction projects (HU-BAU) (2001 - 2003)
Construction of the new public safety answering point of the police headquarters in West Potsdam

A well-equipped administration building housing mechanical and technical facilities was constructed on a park-like section of the police property west of the Potsdam park, in the line of sight of Schloss Lindstedt. The two-story rendered building with a basement running under parts of it serves as the location of the answering point for coordinating police action, a data center and additional offices.

Part III of the budget documentation for construction projects (HU-BAU) (since 2007)
Construction of new police headquarters in Potsdam, with ancillary buildings

The project comprises the construction of the new police headquarters as an office and administration building; it includes the design of the hardscape, the furnishing and equipment of laboratories in ancillary buildings and the construction of new parking garages and workshop buildings. The three-story, angular structure echoes the structures and heights of the surrounding development. The plaza being developed opens onto Kaiser-Friedrich Strasse. Meeting rooms will be housed on the top floor added to the headquarters building. A brick façade will be hung in front of the building as a facing, which reflects the more important status of the building as headquarters, while its coloring will identify it as belonging “to the same generation” as the new building for the public safety answering point.

Part IV of the budget documentation for construction projects (HU-BAU)
Conversion and modernization of buildings on the property

Within the scope of Part IV of the budget documentation for construction projects (HU-BAU), Building 2, a three-story administrative building with a basement, built as a solid structure with a mansard roof, will be repaired and modernized. Besides the conversion measures necessary to implement the space distribution plan established in the designs, the building will be upgraded to comply with current requirements for an office building. The façade, windows, roof and cellar will be repaired or replaced in accordance with the stipulations of the German Energy Savings Ordinance (ENEV). The technical and mechanical equipment will be adapted to meet modern requirements.

Part V of the budget documentation for construction projects (HU-BAU)
Building 5: Conversion and refurbishment of the workshop complex, including the core renovation of the courtyard and the hardscape

Building 5 of the property houses the workshop area serving the police. The measures to be taken include the upgrade of the shell of the building and the modernization of the workshop complex, which will be adapted to meet modern requirements.

The former police armory is located in one part of the building complex. The rooms are being converted into workshops serving the Ministry of the Interior.

Conversion and modernization of the day care center in Pestalozzistrasse 9-11 with repairs

The conversion and modernization of the day care center in Pestalozzistrasse 9-11 including the appurtenant repairs as well as the redesign of the hardscape were funded under the administrative regulation on subsidies granted for the program launched by the German federal government and the Länder to ensure socially integrative cities (VVSozStadt). For this project, Jahn, Mack & Partner was engaged as the architect (structural facilities and expert engineering) for the day care center, and was furthermore responsible for coordinating and controlling the overall project.

The day care center was converted on the commission of the District Authority Pankow in keeping with the economic standards for construction projects funded by the public sector. All stakeholders were involved in redesigning the hardscape such that the open space provides the type of playing and recreation areas that infants and children up to six years of age need.

The measures were financed with funds from the program “Infrastructure measures in redevelopment areas”. Jahn, Mack & Partner planned the conversion and modernization measures and drafted the application for subsidies.
